Edinburgh Marathon Workshop Review

A fantastic evening was had last night (Thursday 24th October) as hundreds of runners descended on Meadowbank Sports Centre for the third Edinburgh Marathon Festival Workshop compared by Adrian Stott from Run and Become.

Runners had the chance to receive professional advice on every aspect of Edinburgh Marathon Festival preparation (for any event) including training plans, nutrition, injury treatment, prevention and tips on how to stay motivated. As well as great offers from Run and Become and Edinburgh Leisure!

Kicking off the session was endurance coach Alex McEwen who gave us his top 10 tips for running in EMF 2014 - for those who were there inspiring, inspiring, inspiring!

We then heard from experienced triathlete and Sports Scientist, Joel Enoch, who talked about his top 3 nutrition tips from carb-loading ie keep your carbohydrate level right especially as your body primarily burns carbohydrate as fuel through to hints on protein...yes, this can also aid your all important recovery!

Last but certainly not least we heard from the inspirational David Hilton who talked to us about his battle with cancer and how Macmillan Cancer Support helped him every step of the way. Just to recap, four years ago David collapsed when one of three cancerous tumours in his skull blocked his spinal cord. A year after treatment, David was given the all-clear. He went on to complete his exams, start a geography degree – and run two marathons. If you’d like to follow in David’s impressive footsteps, Macmillan Cancer Support will be with you every step of the way. You’ll get training advice, fundraising tips and e-newsletters with all the latest event information whatever race distance you choose to run. They'll also send you your free technical running top and build up the best team camaraderie going. You’ll spot Macmillan at cheer points along the route, spurring you on to the ultimate post-race hospitality tent for refreshments and a massage. The session finished with a unique on-track session around the Meadowbank track lead by volunteers from Edinburgh Athletics Club.

We hope everyone enjoyed and took something from the evening.
