Oaklands first ever Marathon Festival

On Friday 26 May – as part of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival – over 150 pupils, parents, staff and friends  of Oaklands took part in Oaklands first ever Marathon Festival.

Team Oaklands collectively ran, walked, cycled, and rolated, to complete the marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

Although this was a sponsored event, it was all about personal achievement, having fun and showing support for the Oaklands staff team who were participating in the Edinburgh Marathon Hairy Haggis relay.

After a warmup with Mr Hairy Haggis, the EMF mascot, they all set off to tackle the course, each person doing their personal best to get in as many laps as they could in an hour.

26.2 miles was a rather ambitious distance but we wanted to challenge our pupils. As always they exceeded our expectations and within 35 minutes had smashed through the 26.2 miles and were still going strong. By the time the hour was up they had racked up a staggering: 41.44 miles, 629 laps and had taken an impressive 82,880 steps.

The team finished their morning with a medal presentation and every pupil went home with a running t shirt from Decathlon, one of our many business sponsors.

It was an incredible morning and the teachers are immensely proud of everyone who participated and are looking forward to our next big challenge.
