Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2021 – Event Update

The announcements from the UK and Scottish Government this week have been a very welcome beam of light and hope. We will soon be able to see family and friends and enjoy a return to running and activity with others, something we will never take for granted again.

In order to reach this precious milestone and secure this outcome, the right decisions and actions must be made by us. Although we believe that there is a possibility organised sport may be able to take place in May, we also understand that this is not guaranteed. We believe that to ask you to wait weeks for that decision would be unfair, given the volume of training required, as well as any travel and accommodation arrangements that would need to be made.

As event organisers, we have committed throughout the pandemic to make timely decisions and communicate as transparently as we can with all those involved with the event. This is why we are communicating the decision today that the 2021 Edinburgh Marathon Festival which takes place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May, will be delivered as a virtual event.

Given the information we have about the route map out of lockdown at this time, we know it is the right decision to make for everyone involved with the event. Current entrants will receive an email today, detailing their options for the event.

As we take these small, steady steps towards summer, we are incredibly excited for the 29th & 30th May which promises to bring our running community together for this spectacular virtual event, marking the end of a long 15 months, and the beginning of better times ahead.

Stay safe, stay healthy,

The Edinburgh Marathon Festival Team
